Reviews
Best tacos in town.
The quality of the tacos are irreproachable every time I go there.
I bring a lot of different persons and they’re always amazed by the food, the atmosphere and the service.
The ratio price/quality is amazing. I’ve tried a lot of other places in Amsterdam (for when they are closed haha) but I never had the same culinary and human experience.
Highly recommend with friends and/or family (they have nice quesadillas for kids)
As a mexican, here is my most honest review of Bacalar. Overall review 3.5 ⭐⭐⭐ out of 5.
Good points:
- 2 out of 4 dishes were good. The tuna tostada is good, it's sashimi style tuna with avocado-habanero mayo. The second dish we liked is the Carnitas taco, this is a really good balance of crispy juicy pork taco.
- Service is very friendly, they put the effort in explaining every single dish
- The Tepachico cocktail was really well balanced. A mix of tepache (fermented pineapple), pineapple juice, toasted hibiscus and a bit of smokiness from the mezcal.
- The altar at the entrance is super pretty, very traditional from Dia de los Muertos
- Tortillas are nice quality
Point to improve:
- 2 of out 4 tacos we didn't like. The first one we didn't enjoy too much is the fish taco. The beer batter was too dry and only a thin line of crisp, it should be more puffy and flavourful to be considered Baja California Style.
- The pulpo taco (octopus) could be better. The pulpo was slightly overcooked, nothing in it was really outstanding. The only good point about it is the morita salsa.
- The dessert Pastel de Pomelo is just a dry cookie with some sort of cream on top, corn flakes ice cream, jalapeño dressing and cherry sauce. Way too experimental for my taste. It lacks a good balance altogether.
- Pink flamingo cocktail was ok but didn't wow us.
- The pickled potatoes on the Tacos de Carnitas were terrible, please remove them from the plate.
Best tacos in Amsterdam! The place is very cosy, in the summer they have a great terrace. The cocktails and food are all amazing, I've never tasted something bad here. They also change their desserts often. Great craft beer selection, and super friendly service. Always a great experience!
The restaurant is located in the north o Amsterdam!
A great place to enjoy Mexican food and drinks .. we had a about 4 dishes to share between 3 of us..
Cecina, tostadas and tacos.. everything was great.! I specially liked the pork belly tacos 🌮 drinks are amazing too.. there are amazing non-alcoholic options as well .. like
Kombuchas and other things!
My go-to place for tacos in Amsterdam 🌮 they experiment with ingredients and the menu gets regular updates which makes each visit exciting! They always have vegan options that are simply mind blowing. I suggest to book in advance as it gets full even during lunchtime.
Very different experience. It was a sad cold, rainy day and we had a blast. Amazing food and great drinks!
My favorite was the taco de lengua, i could eat several of those! We ordered a stout and got a recommendation of a big bottle that was a little bit lighter and sour. Surprisingly delicious and paired super nicely with the food.
I was only intrigues by the dessert options. The ice cream with figs was good but the skull candy was only two bonbons. Expensive and definitely not extraordinary.
Looking forward to going there again in a nicer weather ☺️
Best tacos in the country! That Belgium chef works some kind of magic. The carnitas tacos taste like authentic Mexican tacos but of excellent quality. A bit pricey, but totally worth the expense. Fantastic friendly service with a smile, delicious food. Also lots of mouthwatering vegetarian options. You can park outside (paid but not expensive).
Amsterdam, take note: Here’s delicious, fresh and creative Mexican food - with an inspiring, delightful take on vegetarian options. The classics perfect to a t, the vegetarin creations dazzling. At this place, you’ll always have the feeling that you’ve finshed your plate too soon, that you simply want more of this taste, to relish the nuances of the beautiful ingredients for just another bite. And another.
Just one little side note: Flavors sometimes benefit from a tick less spicyness, to stay on the truely classy yet still yummy end.
